Lackland Air Force Base is located on the southwestern fringe of San Antonio and encompasses approximately 7,000 acres. It is home to the 37th Training Wing as the host installation command, and is flanked by the largest Associate, the 59th Medical Wing (i.e. Wilford Hall Medical Center). Lackland AFB is the site of basic military and technical training for the US Air Force. As a part of the 2005 BRAC actions, Lackland AFB will be consolidated with nearby Fort Sam Houston and Randolph Air Force bases, and will be known as Joint Base San Antonio.
