As the prospects dwindle for Congress to strike a major deficit reduction deal to undo the budget sequester before it is slated to begin next January, talk has turned to the possibility of postponing the government-wide automatic spending cuts for several months as the only realistic way to avoid a grave shock to the military and the economy as a whole.
These days, it may feel like there’s as much chance of landing a federal job as there is of winning the lottery. The federal job market has tightened and will continue to do so, but landing a government position is still easier than winning the lottery — especially if you use the Five P’s.
As you know, the president and the secretary of defense provided a new defense strategic guidance to focus our efforts in the beginning of the year. The guidance was clear, very collaborative process -- you've been through that -- more than 10 years of fighting, two large- scale operations. The Army clearly now is moving inside a frame of transition over the next five, six, seven years.
